Remus snorted and arched his back, slightly disturbed by the sound of it cracking. His bones never quite sat right due to the constant changing of them but Remus was more than used to it. He muffled a yawn into his hand and swatted at Sirius’ leg, “You wish Pads.” Remus said with a quiet laugh, “You’d be surprised I think if James stopped chasing Lily she’d actually come running, eventually. She’s far too used to his constant questing for her heart, rely’s on it whether she admits it or not.” Remus had always been good at reading people, it also helped that him and Lily were on good terms and often spoke about James and his shenanigans.
Remus almost burst into laughter, almost. Seeing Sirius so nervous actually set his nerves at ease he slipped one of his hands to the side of his neck, shivering at the electric that seemed to spike from the contact. “I’m thinking that your mother for once did something right in waking you up.” He said with a small smile, his thumb brushing back and forth over the skin of the boys neck. Remus’ other hand slipped under his chin, nudging it upwards with his fingers he stared into his eye’s, the room slowly getting brighter thanks to the rising sun. They didn’t have much time until the other’s woke so Remus wanted atleast something fixed now, “What do you want Sirius?”
“Well, I suppose Lily is quite lucky to never have to do the chasing. And the moral of this story is that there’s a lot to be said for determination. Not that I would work that hard for a girl. Ever.” Sirius shrugged and crossed his arms behind his head, leaning against the headboard of the bed. He pulled his legs out from under the sheets and crossed them at the ankles. “Oh, did we have any homework assigned from Potions class? Because if there was, I haven’t done it yet.” He let his eyes flutter closed for a moment and stifled a yawn.
Sirius opened and closed him mouth without making a sound. “You” he finally managed to say, in a barely audible whisper. He was hyper-aware of everything happening in the room, every movement down to the smallest flutter of the curtains registered in his mind as he prepared himself to leap of a proverbial cliff. After a moment, Sirius leaned forward onto his hands and closed the space between his face and Remus’, consciously leaving a few inches between them in case Remus wanted to stop this here and now. He knew there would be no going back from this, but Remus was worth it.

“Actually I think Lily would pretty much just laugh and walk off, she’s started subtly flirting with him he just doesn’t notice. I think him doing his job as Headboy correctly has helped him a lot with her. She doesn’t just see him as the goofball anymore.” Remus was comfy, he as strange as it might sound always felt most comfortable around his fellow Marauders, they were his brothers, blood or not. He chuckled quietly and wrapped up the rest of his chocolate for later, he probably wouldn’t get any more sleep so he would need it. He waggled his fingers in the dark, even though he doubted Sirius could see them, luckily another bonus of being a werewolf gave him better eyesight than most. “You’d be lucky to catch me in time Sirius.”
His breath caught in his throat and he subconsciously itched closer to Sirius, his fingers itching to wrap around his friend. He had almost given up on the hope Sirius would ever see him as anything else but by the way the boy’s pupils were dilated and the way he’d used his tongue Remus thought maybe he’d triggered. Oh Merlin, he hoped Sirius wasn’t playing with him but no.. he wouldn’t, not about this. “Sirius?” Remus said in a hoarse whisper, his eye’s flickering between the boys eye’s and lips.
Sirius smirked playfully. “As if, Moony. I could catch you in a heartbeat.” he glanced at the window where the first hints of sun were beginning to show their face. It had been a New Moon, and for the Marauders, that was the best kind of moon. He flexed his calf muscles as he scratched the back of his arm with the opposite hand. “This whole Lily liking James thing seems a bit far fetched to me. He does make a dashing Head Boy though,” Sirius laughed. If someone had told him as a first year that how best friends were head Boy and a Prefect he would have assumed they were under some kind of Confundus.
Sirius was rarely nervous, but that was changing. He could barely breathe for worry that he had scared Remus off. It was dark and he couldn’t read the brunette’s face. He summoned a bit of his courage and reached out to run the pad of his thumb across Remus’ cheekbone. “Please.” his voice cracked. “Tell me what you are thinking.” Sirius was distraught with worry at Moony’s lack of an immediate response, he brushed his finger across Remus’ face once more before dropping his hand. Moony had to say something. He couldn’t just let that moment sit in the air forever, could her?

“I’m pretty sure he’s clueless you know.. I don’t even know what Prongs would do if she ever said yes, I think he’d freak out.” Remus chuckled a placed another piece of chocolate into his mouth, closing his eye’s and savoring the taste. He rolled his neck and let out a satisfied sigh when it cracked, “Oh please Padfoot, your puppy dog eye’s wont work on me. The day you actually want to be respectable is the day Peter goes on a diet. In other words, never going to happen.” Remus’ hand snapped forward and took a hold of Sirius tongue, giving it a light tug before releasing it and wiping his fingers on his pajamas bottoms, “Unless that tongue is wagging I don’t want to see it.” He said with a wink and a big grin.
A barking laugh escaped Sirius’ lips before he clapped a hand quickly over his mouth and looked about the room, waiting for Peter or James to wake up. Neither one of them stirred and Sirius breathed a sigh of relief that most of the Marauders were heavy sleepers. “James would probably faint if she said yes, and Lily would stomp off angrily. So nothing really new. Except James fainting, that would be a riot.” Sirius leaned back into his hands rearranged his legs so one was extended and the other was tucked under it. “You should watch your fingers Moony, next time I might bite ‘em off.” He ran a hand through his hair, tousling it even though there were no girls around to see him.
Sirius’ eyes widened at the contact of Moony’s fingers and his mouth. He quickly swiped the sides of a few of Moony’s fingers with a gentle swipe of his tongue before the other boy pulled away. Was this it? Was this the moment when he could tell, no show, Remus how he felt? Sirius moved a few inches closer to his best friend, watching his face questioningly. “Remus…” he whispered.

Remus shook his head with a fond expression on his face, “I think she’s beginning to crack though. She looks at him less with disgust and more with intrigue now, I wonder what changed her mind.” Remus took another healthy bite of the chocolate and muffled a yawn into his hand, “Padfoot, if I hadn’t seen your ass more times than any sane person should I could possibly think of you as respectable but.. No, there is no even considering it, most assuredly not respectable and I like you like that although picking up your filthy socks every once in a while might help me like you even more.” He concluded with an adorable smile directed at Sirius.
He tilted his head, considering what would happen if James and Lily actually did get together and chuckled lightly. “Does James know her attitude is changing?” he asked with interest. Sirius himself hadn’t noticed the difference, but he rarely noticed that sort of thing. Leave it to Remus to know what people were thinking. He tossed the rest of the chocolate in his mouth before he stuck his tongue out at Remus, although he was fully aware that his gesture might go unnoticed because of the dark. “You could at least pretend I’m respectable. What an awful thing to say.” he grumbled, crossing his arms. However, he couldn’t keep the act up for long and soon broke out into a large smile.

“It’s like you’re getting a dream howler Padfoot, have you done anything especially shameful lately?” He asked with a raised eyebrow before deciding to cheer Sirius up. Remus knew the best course of action to cheer up Sirius was distraction so he began opening up his chocolate and snapped it in half, taking a deep breath his tired bones were instantly soothed by the exquisite smell. He dropped one half into Sirius’ lap and leaned his back against one of the bed posts at the end of Sirius’ bed, “I heard Prongs attempted to get into Lily’s dorm again last night?” Remus said with a chuckle, taking a bite out of his chocolate and letting out a quiet groan of pleasure.
Sirius couldn’t help but laugh at James’ antics. “He decided to sing Lily to sleep. Not that he can sing at all, but you know James. If it’s stupid, and might get Evans’ attention, he will surely do it.” Sirius picked up the half of chocolate in his lap and nibbled off a tiny corner of it. He took another small bite with a smile, calming down already. Remus might be onto something with this chocolate thing. He streched his arms above his head. “And I am the most respectable person I know, thank you very much. I don’t do anything shameful. Except for…And that time I…Or when we…Yeah, that might be it.”

Remus rolled over and caught the bar of chocolate without even opening his eyes, sometimes being a wolf did have it’s perks. “Just promise me you don’t want to spoon Padfoot, I don’t think it’s fair I end up with the nightmares.” He said in a groggy voice and pulled himself out of bed, tugging his woolen blanket from the top of his quilt around him and stumbled towards Sirus’ bed, flopping onto the bottom of it and curling up, his head cushioned on his arms but his eye’s were rooted to the lump that was Sirius. “Are you alright Padfoot?” He asked in a hushed voice, he didn’t want to wake Peter or James.
“Because my mum isn’t awful enough in real life, she’s decided she needs to scream at me in my sleep to. I’m fine though.” Sirius gently shook his head before setting it back into his hands. He was never vulnerable around anyone except the Marauder’s and he appreciated how safe their friendship made him feel more than anything in the world. He smiled when he registered Moony’s joke, at the same time he felt his friend sitting on the end of his bed. Sirius ruffled Moony’s hair and laid back into his pillow. He quickly became restless and sat back up, tucking his feet into an Indian-style position.

Sirius sat up with a start, he’d had the dream again. Yes, The Dream. It might be silly to dream about your mum becoming a harpie and ripping you limb from limb with your awful cousins joining in at last minute, but he felt that given his mother’s personality, it wasn’t far from the truth. That fact alone made it even more realistic and terrifying. He tucked his head in his hands and groaned before picking a pillow off the bed behind him and throwing it forcefully across the room. “Moony. I can’t sleep.” he grumbled before quickly following the first pillow with a second and a bar of chocolate for incentive. “Wake up and keep me company.”
